Small Mammal House - National Zoo

Small Mammal House - National Zoo - original photoLevel: Medium

Going to the National Zoo in DC was fun. Even better was coming up with new page layouts for each area of the zoo for my scrapbook. This page was done in a way that I could include all the many small pictures I took in the mammal house. I did use two of the mini postcards that I got at one of the gift shops to replace two of the animal pictures that did not come out especially clear. The number of pages that this zoo trip was turning into made me want to get this house done in one page, rather than spreading it out over two or more. I think it turned out pretty good.

Materials:
14-16 small photos
2 mini postcards if you need them
Small sheet red paper
Small sheet blue patterned paper
Red letter stickers
Photo adhesive
Scissors/paper trimmer
Oval shape cutter

Pick your one photo that you want to be your focal point. I choose the one of Hatcher and Harmon standing in front of the building. Trim the photo using the oval shape cutter. Mat the photo first onto the blue patterned paper, then mat onto the red paper, leaving about 1/4 inch of each of the colors showing. Set this photo aside for mounting to the page later.

Step 2:
Take the remaining photos and trim into rectangular shapes. You want to make sure when trimming that you are highlighting the animal in each one.

Step 3:
Arrange these photos, and any of the mini postcards you need to use, around the page until you have them pieced almost like a puzzle. You do not want any of the edges to touch, but they can come close to one another. Make sure you leave some space along the left side top for the title letters, and an open space in the middle top, slightly off to the left, large enough for the major area size of the oval cut photo.

Once you have all the photos arranged to fit, and you may have to re-trim a few, use the photo adhesive to mount each one to the page.

Step 5:
Take your oval matted photo and place over the open space in the middle top of the page. This photo can overlap some of the other rectangular photos. Use your photo adhesive to mount to the page.

Step 6:
Use the red letter stickers to spell out Small coming down from the top left corner of the page, Mammal coming straight out from the left side over the top of a photo, and then House coming straight out from the left side underneath the same photo.
